Knowing the Team

Alice M.L. Chong is an Associate Professor of the Department of Applied Social Studies at the City University of Hong Kong. Her areas of teaching are mainly social work, counseling and human service management. Her research interests focus mainly on social gerontology (such as long term care, psychotherapy, end of life issues), as well as teaching and learning in higher education. Dr. Chong has established strong professional connection with the community and is currently the vice-chairman of two non-government organizations, and consultant to a few others. She has been a consultant on aging issues for government units and is an appointed member of high level governmental committees, including the Elderly Commission, and the Community Investment & Inclusion Fund Committee. She has edited a number of books and her publications have appeared in Death Studies, Ageing & Society, Journal of Applied Gerontology, Social Work in Health Care and Biological Psychology. She has also been invited to present on different ageing issues and first year experience at various local, regional and international conferences.

Ali Cheung Wai On is a Project Officer since June, 2011. Prior to joining the team, she was a social research staff in non-profit organization. Her work focused mainly on Women and Gender, as well as Family Wellness. Beyond that, she led several volunteer groups in promoting Gender Equality. With sociology training background, she obtained Ordinary Certificate from Hong Kong Statistical Society in 2010 from HKU SPACE and her Bachelor of Social Science in East and Southeast Asian Studies from City University of Hong Kong in 2006. Her graduated thesis was to compare language policy in Hong Kong and Singapore. Areas of research interest include sociology of education, student learning and teaching in higher education.

Remus Kai Chun Kwok is a registered social worker who was especially serving teenagers and young adult. His was experienced in career counseling and leadership training. He was a nominee of Outstanding First-Year Student Advocate Awards ‘2011 which was authorized by the National Resource Center for The First-Year Experience and Students in Transition. He was also a Practitioner of Neuro Linguistics Programming and Associate Instructor (Low Event of Adventure Based Training). Areas of research interest include learning motivation of young adult, adventure base counseling and leadership training.

Stephanie Fung Yee Lai is a Project Officer with “Project for Learning Excellence (Project X)” in the Department of Applied Social Studies at the City University of Hong Kong. Formerly, she was an Instructor with the department teaching “Learning and Personal Growth”. A registered Social Worker, she obtained her Master of Social Work from University Houston, U.S., and Bachelor of Social Work from City University of Hong Kong. Areas of research interest include first year transition of University students, student learning and teaching in higher education and social work with children and family.
