Learning Community Meetings and Workshops

To get familiar with the learning culture and resources of the Department of Applied Social Studies (SS), Project X has conducted two Learning Community (LC) meetings at the beginning of Semester A. Those sessions aimed to gather students of the same major together and to cultivate their peer relationships. Students expressed that the LC meetings have provided them with valuable information-sharing time which they could not find elsewhere. To further enhance their first-year learning experience, Project X has conducted four workshops on academic development skills the weeks after LC meetings. Topics include: (1) Effective Use of Library Resources; (2) Exploration of Community Awareness Projects; (3) Academic Writing and Intellectual Honesty (I) and (4) Academic Writing and Intellectual Honesty (II). In general, students found the workshops useful and practical acquiring specific academic skills and in enriching their learning experiences.
